Testing & Assessment Data

OSU facilitates students' academic and personal success through the gathering of relevant data. Individual offices and departments oversee initial data collection and storage, following applicable laws and policies. This information is not exhaustive but is meant to illustrate what is typical on campus. This section may be updated as needed without notification. If there is a term that you do not know, check our Data Dictionary.

  • Qualtrics surveys: e-mail address; other data dependent on how survey is set up (learn more about survey data as part of the IRB-approved research process)
  • Student artifacts: anonymized student coursework and profile  
  How We Collect Data
 

Student Inititated

  • Complete a survey
  • Schedule a test
  • Submit a test score 

Staff Initiated

System Initiated

  • Test score upload to Banner

Vendor Initiated

  • Provide reports to instructors and university staff, such as Proctor U, Examity, and book publishers that host exams and quizzes
  Where We Share Data
 

Testing

  • Proctored tests are returned to instructors
  • Placement test scores and credit by exam are available to academic advisors and students through Banner Student Profile 

Assessment

  • Student Survey of Instruction: results delivered to instructors and department heads in aggregated and anonymized format after final grades posted; must meet anonymity threshold (3+ responses required)
  • Annual Regents Report includes anonymized, aggregated data; shared broadly across campus
  • Engagement, Student Satisfaction, and Alumni survey results shared on the IRA Dashboards in anonymized and aggregated format 
  • Anonymized, individual survey results shared with campus partner following rigorous approval process 

Vendors may use data for operational and other purposes and retain data that may or may not be shared with OSU. 

  When We Retire Your Data
 
  • Student Survey of Instruction data kept indefinitely
  • Test scores and placement tests that are shared with the Registrar’s Office follow Academic Data retention guidelines
  • Vendor retention practices vary, but may be limited by their contracts with OSU
