Engagement Data

OSU facilitates students' academic and personal success through the gathering of relevant data. Individual offices and departments oversee initial data collection and storage, following applicable laws and policies. This information is not exhaustive but is meant to illustrate what is typical on campus. This section may be updated as needed without notification. If there is a term that you do not know, check our Data Dictionary.


  What Purpose Does the Data Serve
 
  • Provide information to student’s campus support network to identify resources for success
  • Promote student success by supporting retention efforts
  • Identify student trends to plan for future services
  What Data Do We Collect
 
  • Attendance to events, activities, appointments, and meetings
  • Participation in high time-commitment activities (Band, Athletics, etc.)
  • Volunteer service
  • Co-curricular interests
  How We Collect Data
 
  • Sign-in sheets, card swipes, and QR-code scans
  • Checking in to an event or office
  • Appointments, events, and forms submitted through Slate Student Portal
  • Admissions application
  • Volunteer service reported to Campus Life & Student Support
  Where We Share Data
 

Slate CRM

  • Individual data, including derived engagement score, co-curricular interests, and high time-commitment activities, is shared with FERPA-trained university staff with a legitimate educational interest

IRA

  • Anonymized, aggregated data is shared on the Events and Engagement dashboard
  • OSU privately and securely shares individual student data with select vendors in order to provide additional support for students through advanced analytics.
  When We Retire Your Data
 
  • Information pertaining to student engagement retained indefinitely
  • Vendor retention guidelines vary, but may be limited by their contracts with OSU
